Quarter Finals!

A low down on the Quarter Finals of the Res Cup

The Resurrection Championship Quarter Finals

We are now at the quarter final stage with just 8 teams vying for the prizes, this weeks map list brings inferno and mill to the fore and keeps dust2 as the reserve map should a decider be required. The wheat has been sorted for the chaff and the mice from the men, now we shall see who has got the stamina and the skill to survive in the later stages of a straight single elimination tournament! All fully viewable on ED's very own HLTV servers for the first time!

First off the blocks are team-Coolermaster versus Flattering to Deceive, both are strong sides with a wealth of experience. The boys at team-Coolermaster have knocked out Highfive and cLip, solid teams themselves, without dropping a map against either. This has given them bags of confidence and demonstrated their desire to win this event. Flattering to Deceive are no pushovers though, beating acuity and Jogon, in close fought games needing the 3rd map to finish both. I'm expecting a hard game for both teams, but in my mind team-Coolermaster are the ones who are going to win this fixture but I hope Flattering to Deceive force them to play the 3rd map!

Next on the starting line we have strOng versus Flavour. Some might say Flavour have had the easier journey to this stage of the competition but now they face a top team in the guise of strOng, another side who are yet to drop a map in the elimination stage of the tournament. If Flavour can win this one they will be showing that they are not only strong contenders for the Resurrection Championship, but they are ready to take over as the leading Irish side. That will won't be easy as strong have been playing in the top flight for several years now with consistently good results.

The third game brings us Faction, previously the German powerhouse BHK's UK contingent, playing against freeze! With Faction's recent form they go into this one as favourites but they are known to be weaker on inferno and are relatively untested on mill so the lads at freeze could exploit this opportunity. Freeze themselves are a little known side and remain an unknown quantity and should be clamouring at the chance to secure a semi final place for themselves, though the odds are stacked against them!

Lastly we have The Last Resort playing the Sisters of Mercy. The Last Resort are favourites to go all the way to the final but the Sisters pose the biggest threat they have yet faced. Both teams are well established but The Last Resorts experience in big matches and confidence following good performances in the earlier rounds may pay dividends here. I know that I for one will be rooting for an upset and hope the Sisters of Mercy can pull out all the stops and force a third map, if they do, we all know that anything can happen! Join me in watching them on "day".
