The event started with 3 weeks of group stage matches with the best line up any Enemy Down event has ever seen. http://www.enemydown.co.uk/enemydown-spring-invite-article210.php shows the draw and the calibre of teams competing. We would like to thank every name on that list for competing and making a great first Invite.
Things that went well:
- Every double elimination game was hosted on neutral ED servers
- Match admins were present in every double elimination game
- SourceTV was enabled and allowed for hundreds of spectators to watch the game smoothly and reliably
- XAC enabled teams to play with confidence that games were fair and balanced throughout
- Schedules were flexible enough to allow for all games to be played. The only defaults were through teams pulling out of the event for external reasons
- The small amount of conflicts were resolved quickly
- Cadred.org followed the weeks closely and kept an updated list of results and sourcetv addresses for each game. Thanks to the people at Cadred.org for covering the event in that way.
- Every week in the double elimination a pre-match report was released on the ED site for the games that week. A link to all of these can be found at the bottom of this post. Thanks to the TNWA Media members _jon, DeadeyE, mL, Sir Pyrate and especially Ninjaii for their efforts in writing up these reports.
- ED CSS Event’s head stu pushed for a long time for the event and did a large majority of the organisation and team chasing pre event, his and the other admin’s work made the event.
- Demos for the double elimination stage and many group fixtures are hosted and the link for these can be found at the bottom of this post
Things that didn’t go so well:
- The ED Double elimination bracket unfortunately broke during the event which meant we had to move to another method. This is currently being completely recoded from the ground up and will be back in action very soon
- Disagreement over a specific rule regarding defuses brought the guns4hire and reason-gaming to conflict. Rules that have been seen to account for every possibility were shown to create debate amongst players which is not what rules should be. All rules are always under constant review to update them to make them clearer and more understandable.
- We didn’t have SourceTV available for every group stage match, this is something we’ll look to improve on for the next event by working with other organisations to provide a better spectator environment.
- Shoutcasting was unfortunately lacking throughout the event and this again is something we’re looking to bring to future events to improve the spectator aspect.
Following is a quick report of the final that saw Logitech take the win:
4Kings vs Logitech.fi – de_contra & de_dust2
Contra 1st Half (4Kings 8-7 LGT) On Sunday the 20 th of April over 700 people joined the SourceTV to watch Logitech come from the lower bracket to beat 4Kings over 2 maps. 4Kings chose the first map of de_contra and pre-game were confident about the game. A great start as Terrorist saw them 6-0 up but when a player timed out they seemed to lose all momentum. Logitech took advantage and began to claw their way back with site retake after site retake. Great co-ordinated play seemed to unnerve 4Kings who didn’t look the same team after dropping so many consecutive rounds. The half ended 8-7 in favour of 4Kings.

Contra 2nd half (4Kings 0 - 9 LGT) Logitech came out strong and didn’t let 4Kings get a hold on the map at all. Great play all round seemed to outclass 4Kings whose CT setup looked unpractised and at times even sloppy. 9-0 in favour of Logitech secured the first map 16-8 and forced the game to move onto Logitech’s choice of de_dust2. A map that 4Kings didn’t shine on during the recent iSeries.
2nd Half Screenshot
Dust2 1st half (4Kings 10 - 5 LGT) The game moved to dust2 and 4Kings seemed to be back on form. Fantastic play from Angeldust at mid as CT kept the rounds ticking over for 4K as Logitech we’re lucky to get the 5 rounds as T that they did. Many spectators thought it was over at half time when 4Kings secured a 10-5 lead and now had the usually favoured terrorist side ahead of them.

Dust2 2nd half (4Kings 1 - 11 LGT) Again though Logitech came from behind and concentrated on site retakes rather than holding them. 4Kings regularly lost 1 or 2 players on attacking the site to only take down 1 Logitech player. It was then an example of how to re-take a bomb site over and over with precision flashes not allowing 4Kings to move into proper cover positions before 4 Logitech players were on top of them and clearing the site methodically every time. Logitech didn’t rush the retakes or make any silly moves. This discipline didn’t give 4Kings the chance to hold the site for any length of time. An 11-1 scoreline gave Logitech the 16-11 win and also the 2000Euro prize money.
